Well done Bertie – the music made me laugh, as it was “feel good” and reminded me of Postman Pat in the scene of you trundling along so contentedly prior to your accident. I also enjoyed the portrayal of the characters involved e.g. Boof’s voice whilst saying, “Is that how it happened?”...amusing and generally well received. Thanks for your efforts!

A solid effort from you, Bertie, but the beginning animation left me wanting more. I didn't receive it! Unfortunately the animation after the opening sequence was, for the most part, limited to simple “camera jolts” and mouths changing for talking. The pillar bounce was nice, but the fact that the “oomph” moment had to be done with a camera jolt was a little sad... Sorry, I'm going way too negative here, though. This was super-well-told in my opinion, and I found it very entertaining.

Boof... this was a little uhh... on the boring side. I’m sorry, but it just was. The darkness in the cupboard initially confused me, but the main reason for my “harsh” score is due to the fact I simply didn’t care for the story you gave us. Your cameo in your opponent’s animation was much more enjoyable, perhaps you should have captured a similar essence in your own?

This was good, Boof. The animation you had was good, but when you were singing at the start, were you singing in your head? Also, your footsteps weren't consistent with the floor moving beneath you. Chomp could have done with some extra frames, he deserves it! You running away from him was good, though, and the hand from outside the cupboard grabbing you was effective. In terms of art, don't do things that you don't feel are right – we both know those “shine lines” on almost everything just didn't belong. Know your style, and stick to it!

Good stuff, Sitty. The animation was consistent – you moved when it was appropriate, and the animation when you did was clean and effective. Art could have been improved on in terms of background – why were the oven burners (or whatever) so... raggedy? You could have avoided this and actually taken a shorter amount of time to draw them by using a different tool. The brush, it's not for everything. This effectively told your story though, and I was quite entertained. Good job!

Ah, Car Robbo, this showed us your namesake’s true craziness. I laughed out loud at many points, mostly due to the effective art/animation that conveyed facial expressions, body movements etc so fantastically. The look on Robbo’s face whilst saying, “Car...car...going...” is classic. A story well told, but consider an establishing shot of the classroom to set-up the character a little more in the beginning.

I know that the frame-by-frame didn't quite work out the way you had hoped, I can already tell. However, the work was so OBVIOUSLY there, so this was great. I wish we'd got a little bit of an establishing scene where you are actually asked how your car's oil's low viscosity came to be, but time would have been a factor... I think. As far as originality goes – well, the title of this animation being so long-winded just says it all. It was great. Short and fun!

So many nice little frame-by-frame bits. I was proud! I little tear came to my eye! Especially with that music! Art was lacking a little – only because the line thickness was so inconsistent. This was a true and accurate animation in relation to the Thomas the Tank Engine story/animation, however I did find it rather long winded in getting to the point and therefore had to deduct points for structure and entertainment. This was a labour of love. You had a story, and you stuck to it. It was told effectively – how could it not be? It was an excerpt! But the idea of doing it like that – a 2D version of Thomas the Tank Engine style animation – excellent. The art was great. The only thing that let the whole project down was probably the length of it. It kind of does drag on. But in the end, that was more or less necessary.

You knew you were in for the long haul when you decided on such a long story. Why did you, if the quality of the animation would suffer? At no point in this animation did I feel the characters' lips were actually in sync with their words. I found it grated my eyes. HOWEVER. Your originality was excellent! And I love to see such a silly Pokémon – Ash's Pikachu – get what is coming to it. And indeed, Ash needs to suffer. After all, we all know he could never have beaten a Miltank without it being a 3 against 1 battle... oh, sorry, trailed off. Anyway. Structure suffered, because of the ever-changing storyline. I'm left not quite getting what exactly you, Bulbasaur, had done in the past or the present. The art was good in some parts, but terrible in others, and an inconsistent line thickness was the crux of the matter there. On the whole, though, this was very entertaining – it's just that maybe a shorter story would have delivered in more of the categories.

The animation of you slithering along was great, Evil Leech, as was the animation of your tail, er... in action. However, it was noticeably used four times in a row. You could have easy traced over the previous tail animation's movie clip's frames and slightly altered each one in that way. Stretching movie clips and rotating them just isn't enough sometimes. But you were under the pump, so it made sense to do so. Your art was consistent and worked well with your animation. The story didn't exactly surprise me, so it wasn't all that original. We didn't exactly get a twist. That said, it was a well-told tale. It was entertaining, too, and it's always nice to have a throwback to a previous series like The Greatest Kinder.

Accurate and detailed artwork. I’m impressed with the art, but the concept wasn’t too original and there wasn’t a whole lot of animation so to speak.

Boring - best part about the animation was the artwork. Just thought the story could have been told in a more entertaining way.

Straight-up underwhelming animation, but the artwork saved you a little there. I understand that it would have been quite a task to animate all those lovingly traced Pokémon, and you being paralysed was a great loophole – but ultimately there were few properly animated parts to this. It was over so quickly too! But you did tell your story – just a little too quickly, perhaps.

Cute animation Aron – it was short and to the point and I loved your apologetic nature about the content. Very nice, just needed that little bit of extra spark?

MILTANK'S COMMENTS

At least you apologised at the end for being underwhelming. It was still a well-told story, and the art carried it along nicely, even if there was very little animation going on. Some of your head-moving tweens seemed almost redundant. You want to avoid that – it becomes obvious that you're just animating it so that something is animated at that moment. I wasn't highly entertained, but once again, the art was great, so this isn't too much of an issue.

Short and very simple, but effective, I found it very funny! Threatening the Dean with Blob’s ‘essence’ being pumped directly into the house, followed by a proud Blob being photographed with pHD was great! No dialogue required in that bit :)

This was great in terms of storytelling – whenever a conclusion is able to be made extremely easily without the help of dialogue... it's a good thing! So I loved this for its structure. And in terms of originality – I didn't expect this would be the way you got your PhD, so well done! The only proper animation here, though, was your “essence” oozing down while you talked. Your professor only made one movement apart from his mouth movements, and the animation in the final scene, while effective, was lacking – and your oozing had stopped! The art was good, but you could have done more... particularly in that final scene. A graduation ceremony is very grand!

MILTANK'S COMMENTS

When the pink-haired woman/weird pink thing (who I assume is Robbo, your partner from earlier in the competition) turned her head 180 degrees, I was thrilled with the animation, and thought the bar for the rest of the animation had been set. But sadly, nothing else quite like it was seen. However, it was a great creepy tale. Perhaps the structure was lacking a little – we didn't get to see in detail what Robbo did to make you a pseudo-human like her (though maybe we don't want to know!)... The art was very good – I was really seeing the creepiness of that classroom! I found this very entertaining and it was certainly unique! Creepy charm is still charm! Well done.

I was pleased with your animation of yourself – but then you simply repeated your actions for the rest of the animation – even after you got your new shell! Of course, the music helped out a little here. Your actions seemed somehow different because of it. And of course, you manipulated the movie clip in different ways when your character was “coming back” with the new shell. I was pleased with this for its originality – it was an effectively told story with music, but still, the structure was lacking a little – I didn't really get much of a sense of what you were doing in the first part of the animation (specifically in the scene with the seaweed in the background – why do you jump up in this weird way? It seemed altogether pointless). This was entertaining, though, and you made excellent music choices!

MILTANK'S COMMENTS

This didn't seem to gel as one story to me – the inclusion of the cape seemed unnecessary... but it did make you appear more like a magician, though, so who am I to say it wasn't relevant? The storytelling style was pretty standard, but at least you got your story across. The animation was pretty limited, but your lip sync was pretty good. The art was good, but more could have been done. I did like your “refrigerators” background, though, that was nice. Another nice bit of art / animation was the Sour Cream and Onion Chips falling down. It wouldn't have taken that much effort to make that, so I am left wondering why you didn't include a few more animated parts? Perhaps your cape could have billowed in the wind – that would have been excellent. Overall, this just needed a bit more to it to make it memorable.
